Hi, I have noticed in the logs that the door sometimes opens by itself, randomly…
That is a bit scary because it can be anytime, during the day or the night, when we are here or not.
Do some of you have noticed something like that as well?
What to do to fix that?Do you know for certain that the door has opened or maybe it was just a bad distance read? How does the distance read look in the log on open at such times compared to what its value is when you know for sure the door is open?
If it is a bad read, try power cycling the device and if that does not work, try a different power adapter.
There are other threads on flapping distance values.
That is indeed bad. You could try to prove whether the OG is doing the opening by disconnecting one of the relay wires and see if you still get spontaneous opening. The log would still record the opening as it depends on the distance sensor. That depends a bit on how often it happens.
Ok, I’ll do that. It is very obvious during the night because nobody is awake at 4am. Most difficult to see during the day because there is a lot of back and forth.
I’ll keep you posted of of the results. I noticed it at least 3 times/nights (say in a month), this is why I signed up and created this topic. I will try to review the log and compare with Camera footage to see the real frequency…Are you using MQTT? I caused mine to open on it’s own by setting the ‘retain’ flag in home assistant. Completely my fault.
There were connection issues that night, OG disconnected then received the last command when it came back online. (“open” in Garage/IN/STATE)
Oops didn’t see your answer. No I am not using MQTT but maybe this is my setup that is causing the issue.
My sensor is pointing towards the garage door and it read the distance to the door.
If it opens, the distance is tends to be very big, if it is close it is roughly 300cm.I have the auto-close enabled and it might be the culprit somehow.
Maybe the device makes a bad reading thinking the door is open and after the 15 minutes period, it tries to “close” it but instead, it opens it.
Would that be possible?It could definitely be possible – OG just switches a relay momentarily to open or close the door. If the door is already closed, and OG thinks the door is open, so automatically “closes” it (ie momentarily pushes the button) , the door will open….
Agreed, that’s possible. What does the log show on the OG web interface?
Mine still flaps open/close from time to time – meaning the device has a bad reading and reports from ~230cm (open, no vehicle) to ~50cm. It cycles back and forth rapidly and the door hasn’t actually moved, but that might confuse any auto-close logic.
I turned my auto-close logic off in node red for now.
I’d like to just attach a reed sensor for more accuracy.
