Just got OG today. It works fine on the bench and with the web interface. The relay clicks and the LED is flashing just fine. Option is set to Direct IP + Cloud
Whenever I copy the AUTH TOKEN from Blynk (done the QR scan) to the Device Key in the web interface (Android 6.01 Chrome) I get the message “Check device key and try again” when I click the Submit button. No Options are changed. The web interface reverts to Direct IP Only.
The IP address is not displayed in Blynk either.
What am I doing wrong here, please? Thanks.
OK, fixed this. I should have been typing “opendoor” into the Device Key field. Duh.
Options now save just fine.
Blynk still says that “Your generic board is not in network” and there is no IP address displayed. It all works fine on the web interface. I will use it like that for a while.
I do not like Blynk very much. It seems more use to experimenters than for my wife’s phone. Not a success. It is far too easy to change options that would permanently stop the device from working.
I rebooted OG several time and now it works with Blynk. I have no idea why or how this happened. I changed no paraoeters. I wrote them all in a notes file before I started. I hope this thing is reliable.
OK, let me know if there is any further issue. Basically, if you have put in Blynk token when you set up the device (i.e. while it’s in AP mode), it will automatically boot up in Direct + Cloud mode. If you put in Blynk token after setup, you will need to reboot the device afterwards for it to take effect (without rebooting, it won’t perform the Blynk initialization code).
Thanks for your reply, Ray. OG is working fine. It keeps going offline in spite of being within 12 feet of my AP. I suspect the problem to be with the connection to Blynk. It may be a timing issue between my phone and wherever the Blynk Cloud lives. I am not a fan of Blynk. It is far to easy to get into trouble with this app.
If the Blynk developers could make Blynk write its own app via a compile option that would then remain stable, it would remove a lot of uncertainties. My wife (and many others, I suspect) just needs an app with one big button marked “Garage Door” and a banner underneath in Green saying “Closed” and in red saying “Open”. She is confused by all the other extraneous information and the tiny button and the lack of color when closed. Me, I love it. I did the export to a csv file. Banged it into Excel. Lots of fun.
Can;t you get Samer Albahra to write a simple app for OG with access like OpenSprinkler has? That would be much easier for many people I feel.

As you know, there is a built-in web interface which is basically a simple web app. You can use it when you are at home, or use it remotely if you set up port forwarding. The point of Blynk is that it provides cloud service so that you can access the device remotely without setting up port forwarding.
You can customize the Blynk app by first stopping it (clicking the stop icon), then click on widgets that you don’t want and delete them. For example, the LCD widget may be confusing so you can just delete it.
Just wanted to let you know I am working on this now: https://github.com/OpenGarage/OpenGarage-App.
It’s coming together smoothly actually however the initial setup will require the user to make a Blynk account and setup the project to get an auth key. Once the key is created, the app I am building takes over and manages the device without the Blynk app. In the future, we can possibly run our own Blynk server and remove this requirement.
I will try to post back once a working version is up in the stores.
